The Doc Fossey guitar is an innovative instrument designed for five string banjo players. It allows the five string banjo player to employ the finger picking style of play into other genres of music beyond bluegrass, such as folk, rock, classical, and many more. The Doc Fossey guitar is a handmade, solid hard wood instrument composed of an Engelmann spruce soundboard, Indian rosewood back and sides, and a sapele (mahogany) neck. It contains sapele binding, abalone trim with a traditional banjo style abalone fret inlay, Gotoh® gold tuners with pearloid buttons, and a high-gloss finish.
If you play the five string banjo, or simply collect beautiful guitars, you need to see and play the Doc Fossey guitar.
The Doc Fossey Company originated nearly three years ago. Dr. Bruce Fossey is a banjo player and has enjoyed playing bluegrass music for many years. Dustin Fossey, “Doc Fossey’s” son, also plays the banjo, but has focused primarily on playing the acoustic guitar.
After years of playing bluegrass music on the banjo with Dustin, Doc Fossey decided that he needed an instrument that would employ the banjo’s style of play in a more mellow tone that better blended with the other types of music he enjoyed and wanted to play. The Doc Fossey guitar was born. After talking to other banjo players, we learned a demand for such an instrument exists and therefore went into production. This instrument is for banjo players looking to broaden their spectrum of sound and style
